Ducati is awarded the “Professor Ferdinand Porsche” prize for the technological innovation of the Multistrada 1200 S D|air

The Multistrada 1200 S D|air, available from July in Ducati Stores, confirms Ducati's commitment to the continuous improvement of safety

The Multistrada 1200 S D|air is the first standard production bike to receive the prestigious "Professor Ferdinand Porsche" award, presented each year by the Vienna University of Technology to the most important of the technological innovations in the automotive world. The ceremony, which took place today in the Festival Hall of the Vienna University, rewarded Ducati and Dainese for their innovative project to improve safety.

Professor Bernhard Geringer, coordinator of the Committee of Organisers of the Vienna "Porsche Award", formally thanked Claudio Domenicali, Ducati's MD, and delivered the Professor Ferdinand Porsche 2015 award to Federico Sabbioni, Project Development Director for the Vehicle.

"It's an honour for me to represent the Company at such an important and prestigious ceremony", Federico Sabbioni stated. "Ducati has always been committed to research aimed at improving safety. In the last ten years we have developed a number of systems with this aim in mind; from ABS, standard on all our bikes today, which now on the new Multistrada 1200 also includes Cornering, to Traction and Wheelie Control and to semi-active suspension. Passive safety, too, is just as important when you are riding a bike. The constructive, innovative collaboration between Ducati and Dainese has led to an evolution of the D|air Street System incorporated into the Multistrada 1200, which also includes a new algorithm that can recognise when the bike is going to crash and activate the airbag. In addition the system of sensors and control units on the bike has been developed together with the chassis to ensure quality and reliability".

The new Multistrada 1200 S D|air marks an important chapter in technological innovation, safety and riding pleasure, by adding an intelligent system that's integrated into the chassis and connected wirelessly to the Ducati Apparel D|air® jackets designed by Dainese, equipped with airbags, to the other equipment of the standard bike. The Multistrada D|air system analyses the data and controls deployment of the jacket airbag, of both rider and passenger, in barely 45 milliseconds, considerably reducing the risk of injuries from impacts.

The new Multistrada 1200 S D|air will be available in Ducati Stores from the second week in July 2015.
