  •  Automotive component makers body ACMA today asked the government to restore excise duty on auto parts to 10 per cent in the upcoming budget for 2015-16.With the excise duty concession on auto components expiring on December 31, 2014, the tax rate has gone up again to 12 per cent.TheAutomotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) also urged the government to implement GST at the earliest and eliminate customs duty on alloy steel as part of its Budget wishlist. (Etauto.com)
  • German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz today announced that it will hike prices of its entire range of products in India by 4 per cent from January 22 to offset impact of higher excise duty, post withdrawal of concessions by the Central government.The end of the excise duty cut on 31-December, 2014 has been instrumental in the price revision of Mercedes-Benz products, the automaker said in a press note.(financial express)
  • India’s best selling hatchback the Maruti Suzuki Alto has now been crowned as the world’s best selling car of 2014 as it registered overall sales of 2,64,544 units in the country.   • Macedonia, a small South East European country of 26,000 square kilometres (a little bigger than Meghalaya), is wooing Indian auto component manufacturers. The country, which was a part of the former Yugoslavia, has several attractive credentials as a country to do business in. It ranked No 3 in the World Bank’s report on the ease of doing business globally and has some of the lowest taxes in the world.   • The Mercedes CLA will be launched in India on the 22nd of January. However, the cars, as tested would initially come through the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. Post April 2015, Mercedes India will start assembling the premium compact sedan at their Chakan plant, indicating a slight reduction in the yet-to-be announced prices. Also, with CKD assembly, the range of trims should also start opening up, as opposed to the current availability of only one trim upon launch.(motorids.com)
  •  In association with Delhi Police’s Road Safety Cell, leading tyre manufacturer JK Tyre commenced the ‘Road Safety Week’ on Sunday.
