  • Domestic car sales got back in the positive territory in 2014 with a 2.46 per cent increase on excise duty reductions brought in by the government to propel the struggling industry.However, with the excise duty concessions gone, the Society of Indian Automobile Industry (SIAM) is expecting a marginal increase of around one per cent in the current financial year against an earlier expectation of four per cent.(businesstoday)
  • Home-grown automotive components major, Varroc Group is planning to invest in a greenfield plant in Gujarat under its polymers division. The new facility would be the first for the company in the state of Gujarat. To set up the new plant, the company has acquired eight acres of land at an undisclosed location from where it plans to manufacture polymer products for primarily the two-wheeler business.   • Kawasaki in India reports 1480 bikes sold in 2014. This includes 700 units of Ninja 300, 300 units of Ninja 650, 50 units of Kawasaki Z250, 80 units of Kawasaki ER-6n, and 350 CBU units.Through 2013, Kawasaki India sold mid-size motorcycles, which gearing up for big bike launches in 2014. Sales of Ninja 300 and Ninja 650 in 2013 stood at a total of 1,000 units. Kawasaki India has registered 48% sales growth in 2014.(rushlane.com)
  • Dharmendra Mishra, the Vice President (Sales and Customer Care) of Mahindra was present at the occasion of the launch of the 110 cc Gusto scooter. He said, “We are working across categories and want to be a serious player.” Instead of sharing any specifications for the models planed ahead apart from the emphasis and frequency in 150 cc two wheelers, he did say something about the much-anticipated Mojo 300 model. He said that the bike would finally make an arrival in the Indian market in the next fiscal. Incidentally, it has been five years since the first time Mojo was showcased; however, the bike has been shelved till now.   • Ford India is reported to have halted the Figo hatchback’s production at the company’s plant in Chennai. According to online reports, the said plant dispatched only 151 units of the Figo last month, which in comparison to the regular (average) 1,500 units, points to either a very limited production or none at all.   • Along with prime minister Narendra Modi's ongoing Swachh Bharat (clean India) campaign, there will be a pradushan-mukt Bharat (pollution-free India) in the coming years. While the Swachh Bharat campaign is being realised through people-engagement, the pradushan-mukt Bharat campaign will be kicked off by incentivising and promoting clean automotive propulsion technologies. The Union Budget, to be presented next month, may well play a key role by offering incentives for green technologies. The finance minister will reportedly offer a Rs 800 crore incentive package for electric and hybrid vehicles in the Budget.   • Statistics revealing road accidents related injuries and fatalities has indeed not been too impressive in India. To emphasise on Road Safety measures, CEAT is one of India’s leading tyre manufacturers has initiated the Road Safety week (11th- 17th Jan) campaign in association with ‘Brotherhood of Bulleteers Motorcycling Consortium’ (BOBMC). The road safety drive shall kick off from Fountain Hotel – Mira road to Manor via Ahmedabad highway at 7.00 am on 11th January 2015. More than 25 riders would be a part of this initiative which is aimed at spreading awareness about importance of adopting safety measures while driving.(cartrade.com)
