India Automobile Sales - August 2015



  • Maruti Suzuki India sold total of 1,17,864 vehicles in August 2015, a growth of 6.4 per cent. This includes 1,06,781 units in the domestic market and 11,083 units in exports.The company had sold a total of 1,10,776 units in August 2014.In August 2015, sales of mini cars Alto and Wagon R jumped 8.6 per cent to 37665 units from 34686 units in the same month last year.However, sales of compact cars like Swift, Ritz, Celerio and Dzire declined by 11.30 per cent Year-on-Year to 41,461 units.
  • Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) has recorded its highest ever domestic sales of 40,505 units for the month of August 2015, the company said in a statement. It witnessed a growth of 20 percent in its sales.However, on the exports front the company experienced a decline of 1.8 percent by selling 14,103 units in August 2015 as compared to 14,361 units in August 2014.
  • Eicher Motors' motorcycle brand Royal Enfield reported a 59 percent jump in its combined domestic wholesale and exports in August to reach 42,360 units, compared to 26,643 in the same month last year.This is the first time that Royal Enfield has sold more than forty thousand units in a month.
  • Atul Auto has reported 14.82% growth in sales for the month of August 2015 at 3,906 units as compared to 3,402 units sold in August 2014. The company’s total sales from April to August this year rose by 7.08% and stood at 16,461 units as compared to 15,372 units sold in the same period last year.
  • Ford India sold 21,520 vehicles in combined domestic wholesales and exports in August 2015, compared to 14,092 vehicles in the corresponding month last year, registering a jump of 53 percent.
  • Honda Cars India today reported a 6.58 per cent decline in its domestic sales at 15,655 units
  • in August.It had sold 16,758 units in August last year, Honda Cars India (HCIL) said in a statement.Last month, the company sold 622 units of small car Brio, 5,404 units of hatchback Jazz, 3,260 units of compact sedan Amaze, 899 units of MPV Mobilio and 5,405 units of the mid-sized sedan City.
  • TVS Motor reported a marginal increase in two-wheeler sales during the month of August 2015 at 216,781 units as compared to 215,244 units, a year ago.Domestic two-wheelers sales stood at 183,653 units as compared to 188,129 units, a drop of 2.37%.Scooter sales, which includes exports also, grew by 11% to 72,865 units in August 2015 from 65,544 units in August 2014. Motorcycles sales, includes exports also, grew by six% to 87,044 units in August 2015 as compared to 82,320 units.
  • Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, reported a sharp 4 percent year-on-year fall in its commercial vehicle sales in August. The company sold 24,284 CVs in the month. The passenger vehicle sales, however, went up by 2 percent in the month, reaching 11,194 units compared to 10,975 units in August 2014. In passenger vehicle, it was the cars that showed growth by advancing 19 percent in sales to touch 9,814 units, compared to 8,229 in the same month last year. Utility vehicle sales were down 50 percent y-o-y as Tata Motors sold only 1,380 units in the month. 
  • Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES), a part of the USD 16.9 billion Mahindra Group, today announced its sales numbers for August 2015. Domestic sales in August 2015 stood at 10,751 units, as against 13,733 ­­units during August 2014. Total tractor sales (domestic + exports) during August 2015 stood at 11,699 units, as against 15,006 units for the same period last year. Exports for the month stood at 948 ­­­­units. 
  • Mahindra Mahindra Ltd. (MM Ltd.), India leading SUV manufacturer, today announced its auto sales numbers which stood at 35,634 units during August 2015 as against35,180 units during August 2014.The Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans) sold 14,198 units in August 2015 as against15,321 units during August 2014. The company domestic sales stood at 32,122 units during August 2015 as against 33,150 units during August 2014. In August 2015, the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment sold 341 units, registering a growth of 21%.
  • Bajaj Auto announced sales for August 2015. Accordingly, total sales stood at 341965 units in August 2015 compared to 336840 units in August 2014, recording a growth of 2%. Exports stood at 181658 units in August 2015 compared to 175127 units in August 2014, a growth of 4%. Total sales comprised of motorcycle sales of 290436 units and sales of commercial vehicles of 51529 units in August 2015.
  • Escorts has dipped 7% to Rs 162 on the BSE after reported 33.7% year-on-year (YoY) drop in total sales at 2,402 tractors in the month of August 2015 against 3,624 tractors in the same month last year.Domestic sales in August 2015 stood at 2,355 tractors against 3,147 in August 2014. Export for the month of August 2015 at 47 tractors against 477 tractors in August 2014, Escorts said in a statement.
  • Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV) recorded a growth of 20.2 percent in August 2015 by selling 3711 units, up from 3087 units in August 2014. In 2015, the company's year-to-date sales stood at 30,557, up by 9.3 percent from 27,965 in the same period last year.In the domestic CV market ( 5T and Above), Eicher Trucks and Buses have reported sales of 3009 units in August 2015 as against 2571 units in same month last year, witnessing a growth of 17%.
  • Ashok Leyland has reported a 39% growth in sales during the month of August 2015 at 11,544 units as compared to 8,333 units in August 2014.M&HCV sales rose by 53% to 8,903 units from 5,832 units, while light commercial vehicles (LCV) sales rose by 6% to 2,641 units from 2,501 units.
  • Suzuki Motorcycle India has clocked a healthy growth in the year on year sales numbers for the month of August 2015, registering a 67.58% increase against August 2014 numbers. Suzuki Motorcycle sold 36,636 units in August 2015 as opposed to 21,862 units in August 2014, recording a substantial growth in its overall sales.
  • India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. released it sales figure for the month of August, 2015. The Japanese two-wheeler giant hiked its domestic sales by 15 per cent. In total, Yamaha sold 61,440 units in August 2015 as against 53,242 units sold in August last year in the domestic market thereby registering a domestic sales growth of 15 per cent. 
  • Two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today reported a 1.86 per cent increase in total sales at 3,95,262 units in August. The company had sold 3,88,016 units in the corresponding month last year, HMSI said in a statement. 
  • Hero MotoCorp (HMCL), the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, reported a drop of 13.98% in two-wheelers sales to 480,537 units in August 2015. The company had sold 558,609 units in the corresponding month last year.Committed to add impetus to the sector as market leader, the company has lined up a slew of new products leading up to festive season. The festive season this year will begin almost three weeks late, as compared to last year, and this shift in season is also reflected in the subdued sales in August vis-a-vis same period last year.
  • Volkswagen, the European automaker, sold 4191 units in August 2015 as compared to 4007 units sold in the corresponding month of the previous year, an increase of 4.5 percent.The growth trend for Volkswagen has continued for seven months in a row with year to date increase of 17 percent in 2015 over the same period last year.
  • Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) sold 12,547 units in August 2015 thereby registering a growth of 1 percent. TKM sold a total of 95,316 units from January to August 2015 as compared to 83,755 units sold in the corresponding period last year, which is a growth of 14 percent in the domestic market.
  • The new Camry more than doubled its sales therefore registering a growth of over 100 percent.
  •  Honda Cars India(HCIL), the Japanese automaker, registered a 6.5 percent fall in its domestic sales. It sold 15,655 units in this month as against 16,758 units in the corresponding month last year. Jazz, in a month from its launch, has reached almost the same sales as its long standing Honda City. While City sold 5,405 units in August, Jazz was close on its heels with 5,404 units sold.
