  • Japanese auto major Nissan plans to bring in high-end performance cars and sports utility vehicles from its global portfolio to the Indian market next year to enhance its brand image in the country where it has struggled so far to cement its position. The company, which is present in India through a wholly-owned subsidiary, Nissan Motor India, also plans to renew its entire product line-up beginning 2017."We have a plan to evolve our product line-up. As for 2017, we will have a renewal of all Nissan models," Nissan India Operations President Guillaume Sicard told PTI.(ET-auto)
  • Auto industry lobby Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) on Thursday said Vinod Dasari, managing director of Ashok Leyland Ltd, has been elected its president. He takes over from Vikram Kirloskar.“It is an honour to be appointed president of Siam. I shall continue to work towards the betterment of industry,” Dasari said in a release .(live-mint)
  • Hero MotoCorp and its Erik Buell Racing (EBR), its US-based technical partner, had been developing a 250cc motorcycle (HX250R) and a scooter. However, with the American company shutting down due to bankruptcy, the bike's development was halted. Hero MotoCorp has now started to bring back the product development of its models to India.A pre-production specimen of the HX250R bike was spied last month. Hero has revealed that it will be doing all the development work in India. Other products that were being developed with EBR will now be developed in India.(team-bhp)
  • In aims to further consolidate its position in the country. "We plan to launch four models, including a mystery product in the rest of the year," HMSI Vice President sales and marketing Y S Guleria told PTI. The company, which is the leader in scooter segment, has already launched 110cc bike Livo and flagship model CBR 650 in the country.The company also expects this year's festive season to be better than previous years. "We expect 4-5 per cent year-on-year growth this festive season as we are running full capacity," Guleria said. He added that the company expects motorcycle sales to get a push from rural areas during the festive season.When asked about the impact of strike on the company, Guleria said: "Our Manesar plant has been closed today due to strike call given by trade unions."   • Within two months of its unveiling in India, the all-new Volvo XC90 has received 266 pre-orders. This, according to the carmaker, is a clear statement of the interest for the first new model based on Volvo’s in-house developed Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). First deliveries of the all-new XC90 to customers will start later this month. Tom von Bonsdorff, managing director, Volvo Auto India, said,"We already have a positive momentum before we start deliveries of the new XC90. So we are on track for another good year at Volvo Cars.   • Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India plans to launch its first ever light commercial vehicle (LCV) during the ongoing fiscal despite declining sales in the segment."Our plans to launch the LCV during the current fiscal remains intact. We plan to launch it in few states first as a pilot project before going pan India," MSI Executive Director Marketing and Sales, RS Kalsi told PTI. (ET-auto)
  • Mahindra and Mahindra, the country's largest SUV maker, is ready to make its debut on US roads with its Vespa-like electric two-wheeler GenZe.Mahindra hopes to win over city and campus dwellers with a $2,999, Vespa-like electric scooter called the GenZe, which goes on sale this fall in California, Oregon and Michigan.
