  • Rane TRW Steering Systems Pvt. Ltd launched a new airbag manufacturing unit in the outskirts of Chennai on Monday, which is expected to help the organization in expanding its occupant safety division.The new facility worth Rs.18 crore in Singamperumalkoil will initially supply passenger airbags to Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and Ford India Pvt. Ltd, and will cater to Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd soon, while trying to expand its client base.(livemint.com)


  • The National Green Tribunal on Monday flayed Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for running its air conditioned buses without passengers for a major part of the day.Irked at improper maintenance of the DTC buses, the green panel also issued notice to the Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland, which supply buses, and directed their senior-most official to be present on next date of hearing.(ETauto)


  • Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has announced that its above 9- to 49-tonne trucks in the current portfolio will now be available as Bharat Stage IV variants across the country. With its new range of buses set for market launch in September 2015, DICV is also offering the Bharat Stage IV variant for school and staff applications in the front engine 9T bus product range.DICV says it will meet the BS IV norms using the system derived from Daimler’s BlueTec technology proven in many markets over a decade. DICV has tested this technology in Indian operating conditions for over a million kilometres before offering to customers.   • Indian subsidiary of Japanese car major, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has won the prestigious “Best Energy Kaizen Award 2014-15”at CII’s 25th Kaizen Conference & Competition. The company’s paint maintenance and product engineering division won the famed recognition under the ‘RENOVATIVE’ category. This programme appreciates and awards all the initiatives by various companies for reduction in energy consumption. A total of 58 companies had participated this year.(cartrade)


  • Earlier this year, we had reported that the Sahara Force India Formula 1 team was up for sale and Renault was interested in purchasing it (click here to read report). Now, according to media reports, the French auto major has been in talks with Vijay Mallya, the team principal of Sahara Force India Formula 1 team, to discuss the possibility of acquiring a majority stake in the team.At present, Renault supplies engines to Red Bull and Toro Rosso. However, its contract with the two teams will expire at the end of the next season. The company is evaluating the possibility of returning as a constructor. Other teams such as Lotus are also being considered for a takeover.(team-bhp)


  • Volkswagen’s next-generation Polo, Vento and other group products like the Skoda Rapid will be based on a new platform that is internally called as Emerging Markets A0 A0, which will be utilised by the German automaker for India and other emerging markets. This will help to reduce the price and increase the localisation of the product. Volkswagen at the moment has the MQB and the PQ platform, and the A0 will be the hybrid version of the two. Volkswagen will launching the next generation Vento in 2018 and it will be based on this platform. Even certain Audi products will be made on this platform.(cartrade)


  • The Bangalore-headquartered Avigna Motor Sports (AMS) launched a range of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and quad bikes for the Indian market while inaugurating its new showroom in Bangalore on Monday.According to Anupam Deb, founder and CEO, Avigna Motor Sports, India, the company is importing CKD units which are assembled at its CKD assembly plant in Pune. Deb says Avigna is the first and only company in India to bring ATVs as CKD kits and assemble them in India.According to Deb, “With a sharp focus on Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets in India, Avigna Motor Sports India has steadily strengthened its position as the preferred ATV and quad bike manufacturer.
