  • The Competition Commission of India has imposed a combined penalty of over Rs 2,500 crore on 14 carmakers for indulging in unfair practices in the spare parts market, the latest in a series of tough enforcement actions by the newest among India's regulators. Tata MotorsBSE 0.90 % faces the maximum fine of Rs 1,346 crore, followed by Maruti SuzukiBSE -0.96 % Rs 471 crore, Mahindra & Mahindra Rs 292 crore, General Motors Rs 85 crore, Honda Car India Rs 78 crore. (economicstimes.com)

  • Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra today said it would challenge the trade regulator CCI's penalty of Rs 292.25 crore imposed on it for violation of trade norms in the spare parts and after services market. "The company aggrieved by this order proposes to appeal against it before the appropriate forum," M&M informed the NSE. (economicstimes.com)
  • A report on the Economic Times states that Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is closely looking at a second factory to increase its production volume.   • Renault India Pvt Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Renault SAS France, has a lineup of 5 models which includes the Fluence sedan, Koleos SUV, Pulse compact car, Duster SUV and Scala sedan in India.   • To tap the potential of India’s rural markets, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has launched a rural outreach initiative. It comprises a mobile service van that aims to combine the services of a dealership and aftersales outlet. The first of such mobile vans was launched by Keita Muramatsu, CEO and president, HMSI, and Prabhu Nagraj, VP (customer service).   • The world’s largest bicycle maker by volume, Hero Cycles, has acquired a 60% stake in Mitteldeutsche Fahrradwerke AG (MIFA), Germany’s largest bicycle maker, via OPM Global.The buyout is Hero Cycle’s first overseas purchase and is considered to be a part of the company’s plans to become a global player. PTI reports that the Indian bicycle maker has invested 19 million euros (around IRN 152 crores) in MIFA via its subsidiary OPM Global.   • The compact SUV market is flourishing in India and local as well as global car makers are trying their best to snatch any opportunity to gain share in this segment. The first SUV will be the S-Cross which is expected to enter the market early next year.
