  • Maruti Suzuki's upcoming Gujarat plant will go on stream in early 2017. "It was originally planned to be ready by May 2017. But it will now be ready a couple of months earlier as we need additional capacity as soon as possible," RC Bhargava, chairman, Maruti Suzuki India, told mediapersons at the announcement of the company's results today in New Delhi.   • Volkswagen AG lost the lead in global auto sales to Toyota Motor Corp. after claiming the No. 1 spot three months ago, as the German auto maker braces for consumer blowback from a widening emissions-cheating scandal.Toyota said on Monday that it sold 7.49 million vehicles this year through September, topping the 7.43 million that Volkswagen reported earlier this month. Deliveries declined 1.5% for both Toyota and Volkswagen. (livemint)
  • Sterling and Wilson, part of Shapoorji Pallonji Group, on Wednesday said it has bagged a contract from Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) related to its manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.The contract's scope includes supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the entire electrical solutions needed by Daimler at its commercial trucks production plant in Tamil Nadu, the company said in a statement.Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.(ETauto)
  • The Indian passenger vehicle market is yet to reach a firm growth base but it is capturing increasing share in the global plans of Renault and Nissan. In a global media interaction session at the Tokyo Motor Show, Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Renault and Nissan, said that though India currently doesn’t play a major role in the current mid-term plans (5 years) of Renault and Nissan, it will play a crucial role in the next mid-term plan of both companies.   • Buoyed by a double-digit growth in the ten-day long Navratra-Dussehra period, two-wheeler market leader Hero MotoCorpis aiming to sell nearly six lakh units in retail sales this month.The company has also raised its scooter capacity to 13 lakh units in the second quarter of this fiscal, up from 10 lakh units in the first quarter.(busineetoday)
  • Taking the electric mobility story of India forward, Bird Mobility, in association with Karbon Kinetics, launched Gocycle, an automotive designed, lightweight electric bicycle on Tuesday. Bird Mobility will be the sole distributor of Gocycles in India.With the launch of Gocycle, Bird Mobility, which is a distributor for personal mobility devices, has got into the small electric vehicle segment as well.
