  • Automotive OEM component supplier Sandhar Technologies today filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with market regulator SEBI seeking permission for its IPO. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of equity shares aggregating up to Rs 3,000 million and offer for sale of upto 5,115,456 equity shares by GTI Capital Beta Pvt Ltd at a face value of Rs 10 each at a price band to be decided later.   • New-vehicle buyers, in the last four years, are increasingly considering larger model like utility vehicles and midsize cars, as againsst small cars, J.D. Power said in its 2015 India Escaped Shopper Study released on Wednesday.In 2015, the percentage of new-vehicle shoppers who considered small cars during their shopping process has decreased to 45 percent from 65 percent in 2012. Concurrently, the percentage of shoppers who consider utility vehicles and midsize cars has increased by 12 percentage points and 7 percentage points, respectively.(Etauto)
  • The Suzuki Ignis compact crossover also known as iM-4 has generated a lot of curiosity among automotive enthusiasts across the globe. Suzuki has finally decided to pull off the curtains and unveil the Ignis compact crossover at the upcoming 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The company shall also showcase the iK-2 concept at the event. The company has not revealed any details on the tech specs yet, and based on anticipation it is likely to get the recently developed SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) on a 1.2-Litre engine.   • Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland has sold shares worth Rs 165.37 crore of IndusInd Bank."The company has cumulatively sold 18,00,000 equity shares of Rs 10 each held in IndusInd Bank Ltd in the open market during the period between September 25-29 at a net price of Rs 918.76 per share," the Chennai-based company said in a BSE filing.(Etauto)
  • The Chevrolet brand in India is all geared up to lure carbuyers who have been awaiting for new SUV options in the country. The company is set to launch the new Trailblazer SUV in India on 21st October, 2015. Post launch it could likely emerge as a strong competitor against the popular Fortuner SUV from Toyota and the Ssanyong Rexton. Under the hood, the Chevrolet Trailblazer shall be powered by 2.8-litre Duramax, four-cylinder engine that would generate about 197Bhp of power.   • Audi said 2.1 million cars worldwide were fitted with the software that allowed parent Volkswagen to cheat US emission tests.Some 1.42 million Audi vehicles with so-called EU5 engines are affected in Western Europe, with 577,000 in Germany and almost 13,000 in the United States, a spokesman for Ingolstadt-based Audi said on Monday.Affected model lines include the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5, the spokesman said.(businesstoday)

  • Hero MotoCorp has unveiled the Maestro Edge scooter in India. The company will launch the product on October 13.The Maestro Edge is available in seven colours – Pearl Silver White, Panther Black, Shooting Night Star, Candy Blazing Red, Techno Blue, Matte Vernier Grey and Matte Blue.   • GNA Axles, the Punjab-based manufacturer of rear axle shafts for commercial and agricultural vehicles, has filed a red herring prospectus with stock market regulator for an IPO of up to 6.3 million shares, it said in a release today.The breakdown for the issue is 61,00,000 equity shares for the public along with a reservation of 2,00,000 shares for subscription by eligible employees, with a face value of Rs 10 per share.The net proceeds from the issue will be utilised for the purchase of plant and machinery, and to meet the working capital requirements along with general corporate purposes. The company proposes to utilise Rs 80 crore towards purchase of plant and machinery and Rs 35 crore towards meeting working capital requirements.(autocarpro)
  • Mahindra has rolled out the 7,00,000th vehicle from its plant in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The plant has achieved this milestone in less than 10 years since it became operational.Inaugurated in December 2005, the Haridwar plant currently manufacturers the Bolero, Scorpio S2, Gio (passenger & load), Alfa (passenger & load) and Champion range.   • Volkswagen Board has officially named 62 year old Matthias Mueller as the new CEO of Volkswagen Group. Mueller has been with the VW Group for his entire career, which started back in 1977 when he joined as an intern at Audi. In 2010, he was appointed as the CEO of Porsche AG, which is a subsidiary of VW Group, but also the owner of 50.7% stage in VW Group AG.After being appointed as the new CEO of Volkswagen Group, Matthias Mueller has said that his immediate job is to win back the trust of their customers. He adds that the company will do everything in its power to bounce back from the current situation.   • US-based UM Motorcycles and its Indian partner Lohia Auto will launch first cruiser bike in the country in February during the Auto Expo in New Delhi. "The first cruiser product will be rolled out during the Auto Expo in February 2016," Lohia Auto Industries CEO Ayush Lohia told reporters here. UM Motorcycles and Lohia Auto had formed an equal stake joint venture (JV) in September last year for manufacturing new products including a range of motorcycles -- cruisers and bikes (300 to 500 cc) for the Indian market.   • Government regulators on both sides of the Atlantic vowed on Friday to toughen auto emissions tests in the wake of Volkswagen’s admission it cheated on diesel emissions, but some officials and environmentalists doubted the pledges would be easily achieved.The US environmental protection agency notified auto manufacturers in a letter that they could require additional tests for “any vehicle” to determine whether it meets emission standards under normal road conditions, not just at controlled testing facilities.(livemint)

  • Bajaj Auto Ltd, the Pune-based maker of motorcycles and autorickshaws, said on Friday it will introduce a four-wheeler called Qute to more than 16 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe.In India, Bajaj is waiting for the Supreme Court to give it permission to sell the motorized vehicle the company calls a quadricycle.The vehicle is powered by Bajaj’s water-cooled, 4-valve engine that claims to offer 36km per litre fuel efficiency.(livemint)
  • ZF Hero Chassis Systems, the 50:50 joint venture of ZF India and Hero Motors, today inaugurated a new plant in Oragadam, Kanchipuram district on the outskirts of Chennai city. The new facility will assemble front and rear chassis systems for passenger cars. It has a plot size of 7,200 square metres. In accordance with the local-for-local concept, ZF Hero wants to provide its customers with products from local production wherever possible. Equally, design-to-market considerations play an important role in this regard.   • The made-in-India sportscar Avanti from DC Designs has finally been launched in India at a lucrative price tag of Rs 35.93 Lakh (Ex-showroom, Pune).   • Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker , has reached a wage settlement agreement with workers at its Gurgaon and Manesar plants, under which employees will get an average salary hike of around Rs 16,800 per month spread over three years.Under the three-year agreement, to be implemented with retrospective effect from April this year, the workers will receive 50 per cent of the increased salary in the first year and the 25 per cent each in the remaining two years.(businesstoday)

  • Bajaj Auto Ltd is set to begin exports of the RE60, India’s first quadricycle, after it got all requisite approvals from a European certification agency. The RE60’s launch in India has been delayed due to public interest litigations filed against its launch which are still being heard in the Supreme Court.Against that backdrop, the go-ahead to begin exports to Europe comes as a significant relief for Bajaj Auto.Earlier this week, the RE60 got a certification under the European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EU WVTA) regulations.(livemint)

  • Two and three wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto is going to launch its four passenger quadricycle RE60 on September 25. First unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, it is allowed to be used only for commercial purposes.It is powered by water cooled DTS-i four valve engine, with a maximum speed of 70km/hr.Bajaj RE60 has a fuel efficiency of 35 km/l and boasts of low carbon dioxide emissions of 60g/km.   • As Bajaj gears up to launch its RE60, the country’s first ever quadricycle, on September 25, Tata Motors is holding talks with various state governments to get permission for selling the Magic Iris as a metered taxi.The Tata Magic Iris 5 seater metered taxi would emerge as a safer alternative to a quadricycle which in turn is being positioned as a safer alternative to a three-wheeled auto rickshaw.   • The undisputed leader in the 2-wheeler segment, the Honda Activa has clocked a record-breaking 1 million sales in the first 5 months of the FY 2015-16.The Honda Activa outsells all the products in the scooter segment and contributes to over 51% of the total sales. Its volumes have grown 20 times that of the 2-wheeler Industry in April to August 2015. Honda managed to sell 10,01,350 units of this scooter in the same period. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of hybrid and Electric vehicles (FAME) initiative announced by the government in April this year is now showing some results as more and more manufacturers ready their EV portfolio to take advantage from the subsidies on offer. In this growing list of adopters of electric mobility is the country’s second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland, which is planning to roll out pure electric buses for the Indian market soon. Speaking to Autocar Professional, Dr N Saravanan, senior vice-president, product development at Ashok Leyland, said: “A lot of hybrid movement is being promoted by the government through its FAME programme. I think you will soon start to see some of our vehicles getting steered to the market.   • India’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp Ltd may just be approaching its toughest test after it separated from its erstwhile joint venture partner Honda Motor Co. five years ago.Starting 2016-17, the company plans to roll out new Splendor and Passion motorcycles with indigenously developed engines and platforms, two people familiar with the matter said.Mint learns that the company has developed three engines and platforms in 110-150cc range to use for some of its top-selling models such as Splendor, Passion and Glamour.   • A couple of days after its biggest client Volkswagen admitted to cheating on fuel emission tests in the US, shares of Motherson Sumi Systems tanked nearly 8% as concerns over the business of the auto component major getting affected caused a sell-off. Shares of the company ended down 7.74% today at 241.95 rupees on the National Stock Exchange.   •  Amtek Auto has missed payments on the Rs 800 crore worth of bonds that matured on Monday, potentially exposing the Indian banking system to a near Rs 8,000 crore of loans which may have to be classified as bad loans if the company does not quickly make payments, said three persons familiar with the developments.The auto component maker which was to redeem the five-year bonds did not make the payments till the end of day, said those people who did not want to be identified.(Etauto)
  • Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has set a target to achieve what they call as ‘Vision 2.0’. Basically, this aim of theirs is to achieve sales of two million units annually by the end of this decade.In order to achieve this target, the company plans to setup a new plant in Gujarat (image above), which is expected to start production by 2017, and launch 15 new cars. Apart from this, they will also increase their dealer network to more cities and villages.Considering that India’s majority of the population resides in its 6.5 lakh villages, the car maker has plans to expand their reach more in villages, than in the cities.   • Bajaj Auto has announced that it will launch the RE60 in India on September 25, 2015.The RE60 is powered by a 216cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke petrol engine. CNG and LPG versions have also been developed.The RE60 was revealed in January 2012. In 2013, The Government of India approved the new class of vehicles in the commercial space. The Chennai-based manufacturer has announced the launch of the TVS Sport commuter bike with a high mileage of 95 kilometres per litre (kpl) under standard drive cycle conditions.The earlier Sport model had a fuel efficiency of 75kpl, which means TVS’ engineering team has managed to reduce friction levels sizeably in the new DuraLife engine and in turn lesser stress on the engine, leading to more efficient fuel consumption.   • ARAI has been selected by the Government of India for setting up a new test facility inside their new Chakan campus. It also gets a new rolled leather seat and styling changes like new pipes and wheels, a chopped rear fender and a low drag-style handlebar.   • Manufacturers of electric two-wheelers have claimed a sharp fall in their sale as customers who purchased the vehicles during April 1 and June 30 this year are yet to receive subsidy given by Delhi government to promote green vehicles.According to the Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV), after the new budget was tabled, Delhi government changed their subsidy slab due to which, customers who bought the two-wheeler are still waiting for subsidy, which has created confusion among the new buyer.(ETauto)
  •  Volkswagen AG has ordered an external investigation after US regulators found software the car maker designed for diesel cars gave false emissions data, its chief executive officer Martin Winterkorn said on Sunday, adding he was “deeply sorry” for the violation of US rules.“I personally am deeply sorry that we have broken the trust of our customers and the public,” Winterkorn said in a statement published by the car maker on Sunday. “Volkswagen has ordered an external investigation of this matter.”(livemint)
  • At the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has made an interesting revelation. The company’s Indian arm Maruti Suzuki is likely to get 15 new models by 2020 as it gradually moves ahead to producing bigger vehicles.   • All models of two-wheelers need to be fitted with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and combined braking system (CBS) by April 2018. The road transport ministry has issued a draft notification specifying the dates for compliance of these norms in its bid to reduce crashes and deaths involving two-wheelers by improving the braking system.Riders of two-wheelers are the most vulnerable road users. Last year 32,524 lives were lost involving these vehicles and over 1.27 lakh persons were left injured. (ETauto)
  • Within only four months of its commercial launch, the Fascino scooter has already become the best-selling scooter model for India Yamaha Motor. The Fascino, which is powered by an air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder 113cc engine borrowed from the Ray, sold 13,478 units in August 2015. The Yamaha Fascino was the seventh highest selling scooter model last month, climbing from the number eight slot that it had occupied in July 2015. It had sold 10,594 units in July. Also, the Yamaha Ray (Ray and Ray Z models), which sold 11,865 units in August 2015, was eighth best-seller in the list of top 10 scooters. Given that the high performance modules of the Punto can be easily adapted by the sedan, cost and development time factors are only favorable.   • As part of its focus on promoting electric/hybrid mobility in India under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme, the Central government has chosen the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) as one of the Centres of Excellence (COEs). The total cost to build the requisite facilities at ARAI is Rs 80 crore. The government has granted Rs 30 crore and the balance will be given next year. The infrastructure for evaluation of EVs will be part of ARAI's new campus at Chakan, near Pune. "Electric mobility is identified as a key R&D initiative, especially lightweighting of materials which are used in buses. So not only the electric side of it but comprehensive vehicle design changes is what we are working on.   • Figo Aspire was able to accelerate past the long timers like Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Toyota Etios and Tata Zest, which sold 3,202, 3,260, 2,652, and 2,006 respectively.Launched on August 12, Figo Aspire sold 5,176 units, which is a lion share of the total 8,331 vehicles sold by Ford in the month.The car single handedly helped the automaker turn the corner and help it post a decent growth in the month from a fall in sales in July.   • Volkswagen AG could face penalties up to $18 billion after being accused of designing software for diesel cars that deceives regulators measuring toxic emissions, the US Environmental Protection Agency said on Friday.“Put simply, these cars contained software that turns off emissions controls when driving normally and turns them on when the car is undergoing an emissions test,” Cynthia Giles, an enforcement officer at the EPA, told reporters in a teleconference.(livemint)

  • Mahindra Auto Steel, a subsidiary of Mahindra Intertrade, has announced the opening of its automotive steel processing facility in the auto belt of Chakan, near Pune, Maharashtra. This plant is the seventh steel service centre in the Mahindra Intertrade family, its third in the Pune region and its third automotive steel processing facility.This facility is a joint venture with China Steel Global Trading Corporation, Taiwan and Mitsui & Co.   • German auto major Volkswagen plans to launch the new generation of its most popular sports utility vehicle Tiguan in India next year. Unveiling the new Tiguan here at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said the vehicle is a “proof of the strength of the Volkswagen” brand.   •  Gurgaon-based automotive component manufacturer Lumax group is targetting Rs 2,500 crore consolidated revenue this fiscal year. It expects the revenue to double to reach Rs 5,000 crore over the next five years. The auto component group, which includes listed Lumax Auto Technologies and Lumax Industries, posted revenue of about Rs 2,100 crore in the last fiscal year ended on March 31. (Etauto)
  • Scania has rolled out the 1,000th truck from its facility in Narasapura, Bangalore.The truck facility at Narasapura was inaugurated in October 2013 and the bus plant in March 2015. With a collective investment of Rs. 3 billion, this facility houses a service workshop and a central parts warehouse as well. At present, Scania has a current production capacity of 2,500 trucks and 1,000 buses. The company aims to double its capacity by 2020 and has a target of selling 5,000 trucks and 2,500 buses annually. (team-bhp)
  • Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has no plans to set up a manufacturing facility in India to make premium cars as the country currently is not a market for them, its CEO Ralf Speth said on Tuesday. "Localisation is a step by step process. Manufacturing is always a possibility in India. It will depend on India developing its economy. At this moment, India is not a market for premium cars in terms of volumes that justify building a plant there," he said."If it were to explode in terms of GDP and come closer to the Chinese market of 24 million cars a year, we can think about a unit in India," he said.(cartrade)

The liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder, 321cc, 41bhp YZF-R3, which is imported into India in the form of completely knocked down (CKD) kits and locally assembled at the company’s Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) facility, has recorded total despatches of 140 units during August 2015.   •  Standard & Poor's has cut the long term credit rating of Amtek Global, reflecting the "heightened liquidity risks" at its parent company Amtek Auto, which might default on loan obligations."The downgrade reflects heightened liquidity risks at India-based parent company Amtek Auto.
