  • Two-wheeler maker Ather Energy has received $12 million funding from venture capital firm Tiger Global. The firm will spend it on development, testing, production and the launch of the electric bikes that are expected to be out early next year.“We want to offer the Indian consumer a completely new driving experience by developing a product that would be at par with any petrol or electric two-wheelers available in the market today. This investment will help us continue to evolve our product and scale it towards launch,” said Tarun Mehta, chief executive, who co-founded the company along with Swapnil Jain at the IIT Madras Research Park.(Livemint)
  • Eric Buell Racing’s (EBR) sudden bankruptcy announcement in the U.S. has altered Hero MotoCorp’s original plan of foraying into the quarter-litre motorcycle category. The largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the world by volume had plans of stepping into the midsized motorcycle category with its four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 249cc, fully-faired HX250R model by Q2-Q3 FY2015-16.   • German auto major Volkswagen is working on plans to roll out an 'India-specific' Sedan next year, a top official of the company said today. "It will be a compact Sedan and compatible with Indian conditions. The rollout will be most likely during next year," Volkswagen Managing Director Thierry Lespiaucq told reporters here.He declined to divulge price details, but said it won't be below Rs 5 lakh. Lespiaucq, who was here to inaugurate a new car dealership and hand over the 3,00,000th car in India, said the company has lined up a series of exciting new launches for the next 24 months as "they are optimistic about continuing with their growth momentum in the Indian market".(cartrade.com)
  • The government today approved Rs 4,318.28 crore for constructing roads and basic amenities at two industrial regions in Gujarat and Maharashtra under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project.The Cabinet Committee, chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of trunk infrastructure components of Phase-1 of the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat and Phase-1 of the Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) in Maharashtra under the DMIC Project.(ETauto.com)
  • German luxury carmaker BMW today launched an updated version of its ‘6 Series Gran Coupe’, priced up to Rs 1.21 crore (ex showroom Delhi).The model will come in two variants– the BMW 640d Eminence priced at Rs 1.14 crore and the 640d Design Pure Experience version tagged at Rs 1.21 crore.The company introduced the new car at the preview of the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 to be held in the Capital from July 15-19.(financial express)
  • Rumours regarding the discontinuation of the Honda Unicorn had been circulating ever since the firm introduced CB Unicorn 160 in the Indian market. However, the bike manufacturer did not commit to this or confirm. According to latest reports, the Japanese firm has taken the bike off the website of its Indian subsidiary, indicating the long-due discontinuation of Unicorn. This decision marks one of the best runs of any motorcycle in the Indian market and Unicorn has performed exceptionally well.The Unicorn model gave Honda the impetus to go ahead and become a popular bike in the Indian market by making a mark in the 150 cc segment.   • Mahindra will be finally launching its new bike, the Mojo, in June 2015. "We will be launching the Mojo bike, in the first half of FY16," stated Dr Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra. The Mojo is a 300cc new bike that Mahindra will be looking at for entering the performance segment.Mahindra Mojo will have a 296cc single-cylinder liquid cooled engine that will churn out 27bhp of power and 25Nm of peak torque. The Mojo will come mated to a six-speed transmission. It is likely to have daytime-running LED lamps, a new fuel tank, upside down forks, twin mufflers, Pirelli Sport Demon tyres, Y-spoke black alloy wheels and LED tail lamps.(Etauto.com)
