Automotive Update - 1st December 2014

  • As a part of its ongoing overseas expansion, Hero Motocorp is planning to setup manufacturing plants in Brazil and Argentina, two of Latin America’s largest two-wheeler markets. Hero Motocorp has already started construction of its wholly owned manufacturing facility in Colombia and will become the first Indian two wheeler maker to have manufacturing presence in Latin America. Talking to PTI Mr. Pawan Munjal, MD and CEO, Hero Motocorp, said that the company will set up a plant in Brazil, and is also planning to manufacture products in Argentina.(indianautoblogs.com)
  • While not officially calling it a recall, Maruti Suzuki India has announced that it will proactively undertake a ‘Service Campaign’ to inspect a suspected fault and replace the relevant part of clutch operation system of a batch of 3,796 Ciaz (manual transmission) cars.  These cars are among those manufactured till November 7, 2014. The sedan was launched in October in the Indian market. (autocarpro.in)
  • The Honda City, after losing its segment leadership position to the new Maruti Ciaz in October 2014, has reclaimed its crown. November 2014 saw Honda Cars India sell 7,252 units of the City, whereas Maruti sold 5,232 units of the Ciaz. Sales of the Ciaz dropped by 17 percent compared to October 2014. (indianautoblogs.com)
  • Toyota India has recalled 5,834 Corolla Altis sedans manufactured from June 15, 2010 to May 23, 2011. The recall is to fix the problem of engine oil seeping into the air intake system.There have been no complaints pertaining to this fault and none of the other models manufactured by the company during that period has any issues. Toyota dealerships will contact customers by issuing a letter or a telephone call and the repairs will be carried out free of cost. Customers will be informed about the time required for the repairs during the time of communication. (carwale.com)
  • Maruti's entry level model Alto 800 ranks highest in the entry compact segment for initial quality, while rival Hyundai's i10 gets the top slot in the compact segment, said a study on Thursday.According to JD Power 2014 India Initial Quality Study rankings, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 ranks highest in the entry compact segment with 97 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), while the company's Swift ranks highest in the premium compact segment with 78 PP100.(cardekho.com)
  • Ford EcoSport will now be available under Canteen Stores Department (CSD) and Central Police Canteen (CPC) across the country.In addition to standard benefits offered under CSD and CPC, Ford India claims that it will extend benefits such as priority delivery to serving and ex-service personnel, subject to variant availability.(teambhp.com)
