manufacture seats, body parts, air filter assembly, mirror assembly for the

net profit jumped 19.6 percent to $1.4 billion thanks to a weak yen and growth

- Ashok Leyland has recorded a 4.8 percent increase in
turnover to Rs 2,477.80 crores for the quarter ended June 30, 2014, as against

the quarter stood at 14,949 numbers (14,900 in the year-earlier quarter). Sales
of LCVs stood at 5,032 units (as against 6,824 in the year-earlier period); the

- Ashok Leyland June quarter earnings were slightly better than expected.
Revenue was marginally higher than Bloomberg’s forecast, while net loss

one-hundredth of a percentage point. Though the firm posted a drop in sales
volume, price hikes improved realization to aid revenue growth. Segments like

X5 luxury SUV called xDrive x30d ‘Expedition’, priced at Rs. 64.9 lakhs

- German luxury carmaker BMW has launched an all-new hybrid

- India Yamaha Motor’s upcoming new manufacturing plant at
Chennai, that will go on stream this November, will likely begin
production with the Alpha scooter launched at the Auto Expo 2014 in February.
The scooter is powered by a four-stroke, 113cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled
engine which develops 7bhp at 7500rpm and maximum torque of 0.82kgm at 5000rpm.
Yamaha is targeting sales of around 200,000 units of the Alpha which is
currently being produced at the company’s Surajpur plant in Greater
