  •  Tata Motors plans to introduce several new technologies, including the automated manual transmission (AMT), in its commercial vehicles in a bid to consolidate its position in the segment.The company, which has over 60 per cent market share in the domestic commercial vehicle sector, is currently developing on its own the AMT technology. AMT has recently been introduced in various passenger cars, including its sedan Zest as well as Maruti Suzuki's small car Celerio.(ETauto.com)
  • The Chennai-plant of Japanese two- wheeler manufacturerYamaha is set to go on stream very soon, a top company official said on Saturday."Very soon. We are even working hard to make it operational," Yamaha Motor India Vice-President (Strategy and Planning) Ravinder Singh told PTI in Chennai.The company is setting up the plant at Vallam Vadagal in Kancheepuram district. It will invest Rs 1,500 core in phases.According to company officials, the plant would have an initial capacity of 4.5 lakh units per annum and can be scaled upto Rs 18 lakh units by 2018.(businesstoday.in)
  • Volkswagen India has expanded its export operations. With the market introduction of the new Polo in Mexico since the beginning of November this year, the carmaker has begun shipping its new Polo hatchback, which is manufactured at the Volkswagen Pune Plant, to Mexico. The Polo becomes the second model, after the Vento, which is exported to Mexico from India. The export versions of the Vento and the new Polo together account for nearly every second car produced at the Pune Plant. (Autocarpro.in)

  • Tata Motors has won the 2014 CII Design Excellence Awards for its passenger vehicle the Zest and commercial vehicle, the Ultra. The Design Excellence awards were initiated by CII in 2011 to establish Design as a tool for national competitiveness in the country. The Zest won the overall award in the ‘Mobility’ category – from among a field of more than 10 vehicles, including Commercial Vehicles, Special Purpose Vehicles and two wheelers, prevailing over competition from five different categories. Furthermore, Zest also achieved the first rank in the PV category to be crowned the best designed car.On the other hand, Ultra won the best designed truck award in the four-wheeled CV category.(motoroids.com)
